MLS Second Best XI

Major League Soccer released its Best XI on Thursday.  Of all the post seasons awards that MLS gives out, this is generally the most highly regarded pat on the back outside of the MVP award.

Here again we see Major League Soccer trying its best to appeal to both the casual American sports fan and the traditional soccer fans from around the world.  Some people complain about the plethora of awards MLS gives out at season’s end, but most world-wide leagues do have a Best XI.

Taking the best players from each position and making an All-Star team.  This is a very American concept.  So much so that every other American league (MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA) has a first-team all-league, a second-team all-league, and in some cases a third-team all-league.  MLS does not do this –take that people who think MLS is only placating to American fans.

Only one team? That is just unAmerican.  Doesn’t MLS realize that everyone gets a trophy?  Here is a list of MLS Second Best XI, featuring only players who did not make the Best XI.
